On Saturday, Nov. 17, the Washington County Historical Society will sponsor a lecture and field trip about the Arrowhead Trail. Built between 1910 – 1913, the trail was the first all-weather automobile road between Salt Lake City and Los Angeles. Historian Lisa Michele Church will present an illustrated lecture about the Trail with special focus on famed race car driver, Charles H. Bigelow, whose efforts publicized the route. Bigelow drove in the first Indy 500 and was also a travel writer. In 1915 and 1916 he drove the Arrowhead Trail several times and wrote about his experiences.
The program will begin at 10 a.m. downstairs in the St. George Library, 88 West 100 South. Following the 1-hour lecture, all interested persons are invited to participate in a tour to see near-by remnants of the Arrowhead Trail.
There is no charge for the lecture and tour.
