SUAG Workshop – “Design in Abstraction” by Russell Black

The Southern Utah Art Guild is pleased to announce an upcoming workshop, “Design in Abstraction”, with instructor Russell Black.

The workshop is for 3 days, March 1 – 3, 2018. The cost is $195 for an SUAG member and $230 for non-members. There is a $100 deposit and the balance is due by February 21st. There is a minimum of 10 students for the workshop.

Design in Abstraction

– An all media workshop –
Learn to design abstract paintings in this three-day workshop with artist and designer, Russell Black. Through lecture, demonstration, and class participation, you will learn to express your creative ideas through the use of abstraction. This workshop will cover both representational and non-objective abstract painting types along with the elements and principles of design that can be applied to all forms of painting. This will be an “open” media workshop (watercolor, acrylics, oils, pastels, etc.).

Points that will be discussed:
The difference between a representational vs. non-objective abstract painting
The elements and principles of design
The creation of and use of design patterns
Symbolic abstraction as it relates to subject
Non-objective and pure design as it relates to expression vs. decoration
