Andy Grammer
Presented by Tuacahn Amphitheatre and Center for the Arts at Tuacahn Amphitheatre and Center for the Arts Ivins, UT
You might be surprised Andy Grammer called his new album Monster. He was too. Long known as one of the most optimistic bright lights in the pop singer-songwriter sphere, Grammer found himself fighting demons and finding new corners of himself, places he hadn’t wanted to venture before. “Being happy, anger is my vulnerability,” he says. “I didn’t know how to deal with getting in touch with anger. I just pretended it wasn’t there.” Grammer embarked on a long mental health journey that mirrored an exploratory five-year interim between albums which, of course, happened to coincide with a particularly tumultuous five years for all of us. After everything, Monster, arriving October 4, became a document of someone walking through a fire they never wanted to even look at, and what happens when they emerge on the other side. It is part absurd domestic serio-comedy, part erotic magic realism, unflinching about taboos and about questioning that, just maybe, monogamy isn't enough." -Newsday This calendar listing is brought to you by NowPlayingUtah.com, Utah's one-stop, online website for arts and entertainment events, powered by the Utah Cultural Alliance.

Fall Exhibitions by Stephanie Leitch and Kirsten Holt Beitler
Presented by St. George Museum of Art at St. George Museum of Art Saint George, UT
FALL EXHIBITIONS - OPENING SEPTEMBER 6 Heaven and Earth: Attached by One Pillar by Stephanie Leitch “Reared within a utopian idea of the West, I’ve been imprinted with the grid as an essential restraint. In this environment, structural ideals are subject to entropic forces, and the tension between these elements is where I seek form. My work ranges from large-scale site-specific installation, to detailed hand drawings, to performance. Underlying every work is a compulsion for containing the micro within the macro and a generative, iterative, obfuscating and layering drive. I tend to view most mark-making as arbitrary and therefore when designing structures I must arrange materials and define space the way things are built on a kind of molecular, crystalline level. I see my work as relics of performative hand processes with materials, utilizing spellcraft through dextrous repetition and encoded mysticism. Balanced in the intersection of my desire to both hide and reveal, I generate the physically impenetrable field. The viewer must circumambulate the boundaries or indeed traverse the underbelly of the work and access its interior spaces solely through desire. In Spell Field II, I’m continuing to plumb the gravity axis between heaven and earth. I’ve extended my two-dimensional dot spells as three dimensional text, layered upon itself in the suspension. In Interstices Revisited, I'm bathing the field of plumb lines in projected imagery inspired by the beams of divine intrusion in religious art, rendering the light tangible and the specific imagery abstract. I hope to draw the viewer…

Gingerbread: The Musical
Presented by Utah Tech University Theatre at Dolores Dore Eccles Fine Arts Center Saint George, UT
Performances: November 13–15 & 18–22 in the Eccles Blackbox Theatre THE STORY: A hauntingly contemporary musical inspired by the Hansel and Gretel tale, Gingerbread transports us to a future where families in isolated villages live under the shadow of a Wall separating them from the City. Children vanish into the woods, whispered rumors of trafficking swirl, and a grieving mother clings to gingerbread as the last link to her lost daughter. With a sweeping score and powerful storytelling, Gingerbread explores resilience, justice, and the unbreakable bond between parent and child. Rating: PG-13. Mature themes including child endangerment, trafficking references, depictions of fire, and a gun threat.
