Bio

My introduction to photography came from another interest I have for fly-fishing. Spending summers fishing local streams and lakes for the last 12 years, I realized these areas were very special to me and picked up a camera and started making photographs of the wildlife & landscapes I encountered. After a few years, I became seriously interested and began reading books and articles on photography. Soon with the encouragement of friends & family, I decided to take it to the next level and began selling my work, by opening my first gallery in St. George, Utah. I use a range of equipment and techniques to achieve the type of feeling & style I want in a photograph. I use Medium format digital, and my other favorite an 8x10 & 4x5 view cameras, which allow me to capture superior detail. I love the entire photographic process from capture to making fine art prints, which allows me to achieve the desired style I’m looking for in my photographs. I do enhance my images to a certain extent, just as in any other form of art the artist uses tools & techniques to create his/her vision. I use different film types, filters, dodging & burning, and color filtration as tools to convey the feeling I had when I captured the image. I do all of the work in creating a final piece for display, from printmaking to selecting the right frame or mat for a photograph.

Photography for me is a never ending learning experience from making a photograph to finding new locations to photograph, and I love knowing that around the corner, I will discover something new. I’ve always enjoyed landscape & wildlife photography, and love the work of amazing photographers such as Edward Weston, Ansel Adams, Dave Pettit, Frans Lanting, Galen Rowell, Michael Fatali, Alain Briot, Christopher Burkett, Charles Cramer, Joseph Holmes and so many others, the list really could go on forever. Focusing on photographing areas lesser known and off the beaten path. I love fishing for strong compositions that require going back time and again to capture the light and a feeling of the moment. My ultimate goal in photography is to capture images that bring wonderful memories to everyone who has shared time in the amazing deserts and mountains of the southwest.
