Children's Musical Theater (CMT) St. George is a non-profit volunteer group striving to provide musical theater experience for local children (and teenagers), regardless of experience, or ability to pay. CMT St. George seeks to nurture a love of performing in children. Our performers will be challenged to excel in music, dance, and theatrical performance. Looking back on SGMT’s history, it is impossible not to see an organization determined to overcome the incredible odds against it and rising to the challenges before it. The brainchild of playwright Mark Ogden who passed away in 1994, the reins were turned over to Don and Dawna Kenworthy who guided the small organization from a fledgling company of passionate followers to the most successful community theater in southern Utah. By 2007 SGMT was producing 8 shows annually with over 50,000 passing through its doors each year.

The City was settled in 1857 by Mormon converts from the southern United States who were called on a "Cotton Mission" by Brigham Young to go to southern Utah and grow cotton. They named their city in honor of the first president of the United States, George Washington.
