Joy Stein: Owner, Artist, Curator
I create art in many mediums including photography, letterpress printing, graphic design, bookmaking, collage, watercolor painting and now, store displays!
I am a self-taught artist, with beginnings in Walker Evans’ rural south, meandering for a time through industrial Pittsburgh, briefly living in Washington, DC and currently rooted with a strong sense of place in the desert southwest of Southern Utah.
Because of the inspiring natural environment, my art has been significantly influenced by the desert sandstone surroundings. Color plays an important role in my vision, where cadmium orange cliffs and violet shadows are some of the signatures of my style.
In March of 2013, I added another dimension to my life. As shopkeeper, bookkeeper, curator and artist I opened Joy Craft & Design in Springdale, Utah where I love creating special products for the store and spending my time talking with customers who visit from all over the world.
I feel fortunate to live in this beautiful town next to Zion National Park and enjoy sharing my love of the area.
