The City of Santa Clara will not be hosting its Swiss Days 2020 annual celebration due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. We hope that residents will still show their Swiss Days spirit by putting out cows and Swiss flags during the month of September! We will be hosting a fireworks show on September 25th for all to enjoy.

***

Santa Clara’s Annual Swiss Days Celebration is truly a home-town celebration full of history and fun! Santa Clara celebrated its first Swiss Days in 1990 in tribute to the town’s heritage in which Swiss Pioneers settled in Santa Clara in 1861.

Swiss Days includes our famous 5k run/walk and pancake breakfast, followed by the always popular Swiss Days Parade heading east on Santa Clara Drive from the Jacob Hamblin home to the City Hall.  The parade will showcase the Santa Clara Princess Royalty, antique cars, the Grand Marshal, local businesses and schools, live animals, homemade floats, and everything in between!

The three day festival at Town Hall will also include food and merchandise vendors, continuous entertainment including a free Friday night concert, town and family heritage displays, pioneer craft demonstrations (at Heritage Square), races, tournaments, chalk art, bingo, children’s games and more.  In addition, a Red Rock Car Show will be at Canyon View Park.

How much stuff, how many bits and pieces, odds and ends, and treasures can a theatre company accumulate in sixty years? The answer, without being precise: a lot.

The Utah Shakespeare Festival has storage units packed to the ceiling with thousands of items, from prop furniture to children’s costumes, from event décor to seasonal décor. And they are cleaning out, organizing, and having a huge storage sale!

The public sale is scheduled for Saturday, September 26, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on Shakespeare Lane between 200 and 300 West, just south of the Beverley Center for the Arts and the Festival complex.

“We are very excited about this sale,” said Donn Jersey, development and communication director. “The Festival has never had a sale of this size and scope; so it will be fun to see the variety and the amount of items available—and to offer an enjoyable and safe community event during this summer and fall of canceled theatre.”

The thousands of items on sale will include toys, children’s costumes, housewares, lawn décor, seasonal décor, interior decorations, jewelry, Festival memorabilia (posters, keychains, programs, books, CDs, etc.), baskets, glassware, journals, clothing, cards, artwork, prop furniture, tassels and fabric trims, baskets, china, event décor, and lots more.

“And everything will be priced very inexpensive, even cheap,” said Jersey. “Our goal is not to make a lot of money, but to clean out our storage and provide a fun community event at the same time.”

Because of COVID-19, health restrictions will be maintained: masks are required, and social distancing is encouraged. “We hope everyone will be aware of others at this event and will help us keep it safe,” said Jersey.

“Then, come and find the perfect item,” he concluded, “gifts, Halloween costumes, décor for your home, souvenirs, and so much more. We can’t wait to see you there.”

The Utah Shakespeare Festival just recently announced a full 2021 season, running from June 21 to October 9. Plays are Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors, Richard III, Pericles, and Cymbeline, as well as two musicals (The Pirates of Penzance and Ragtime) and two additional plays: The Comedy of Terrors and Intimate Apparel. Tickets are now on sale by visiting www.bard.org or calling 800-PLAYTIX.

The DSU Sears Art Museum is proud to unveil a surprise exhibit, which will be shown in the Eccles Fine Arts Center Grand Foyer from June 15th to October 2nd! This small show, COVID-19 Pops-Up in Art, features some amazing pieces that will let you view the recent pandemic through new eyes. We invited Southern Utah artists to reflect and record the effects of the new normal through their art, and then submit it to this topical pop-up show. Visitors are encouraged to participate in the experience as well by wearing face masks and following social distancing guidelines. This is a unique opportunity to see history being made and being recorded via art for historians of the future to look back on.

Also on display in the foyer during this time is a new series from Stewart Seidman, a New York painter turned St. George resident, who was kind enough to let us show his work on short notice. His COVID-19 series is a powerful statement about the situation at hand, including a narrative of his personal journey through the hardships of the past few months. Seidman’s paintings are expressive, emotionally charged, imaginative and full of powerful messages that convey a story to the viewer in a decorative and sometimes amusing manner. The technique is striking and expressive with images, patterns and colors. It truly makes for an immersive viewing experience. These pieces and their accompanying stories can be viewed on our website for the duration of the show, but we suggest that you come see them in person for full effect.

Monday – Friday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

An infamous tale, Sweeney Todd, an unjustly  accused barber, returns to 19th century London seeking revenge.  Rated PG-13 for mature audiences.

We’re NOW Open - The Red Cliff Gallery and Southern Utah Art Guild Art Shows are back showing fantastic art by our local Southern Utah artists.

Starting off on September 21 and running through the end of the year, we will be presenting our Solo Artist Shows, featuring different artists every three weeks.

You’re invited to come visit us during our grand reopening presentation, September 21 through October 10, Monday through Saturday 10am to 5pm.

Come and meet the artists at the Artists Reception, Friday, September 25, from 6-8pm. Our first featured artists are Wil Adams and Lynda Sentker.

Wil Adams' art is expressive and colorful. He enjoys painting with acrylics and watercolors to create his amazing southwest style of feathers, landscapes and abstract pieces. He started out using art as a way to relax, and now he’s taken it to the next level of expressing his ideas and events in his life through his artwork.

Lynda Sentker is an oil impressionist painter, who has a keen eye to express and convey the simple beauty of the world around us. She pulls her art from memories that influenced special moments and feelings in her life.

We look forward to seeing you at the gallery!

Cost: FREE

Every fall for the past eighteen years, thousands of people have been making their way to “Art in Kayenta,” a three-day art festival in Ivins. There are lots of reasons to attend! For art lovers, it’s being able to wind their way through booth after booth and gallery after gallery of unique original art and wares. For others, it’s relaxing in the beer and wine garden, sipping wine while savoring fresh food from local vendors; others opt for the tasty entrées Xetava Gardens Café serves up. But for many it’s enough just to enjoy the gorgeous weather and stunning red-rock scenery. This year’s “Art in Kayenta” Festival is expected to draw our largest crowd yet.

Art in Kayenta offers one-of-a-kind creations from over 40 juried, regional and national artists who specialize in media ranging from sculpture to painting, jewelry to ceramics, wood to metal, and more. Each year, artists participate in a silent auction featuring their fabulous creations! Festival attendees will have the exclusive opportunity to bid on —and hopefully win—selected art pieces. The auction is hosted by the Kayenta Arts Foundation with proceeds benefiting the beautiful, one-year-old Center for the Arts at Kayenta theater.

Note: This event is subject to safety conditions set forth by the Governor of Utah, Southwest Public Health Department, and recommendations from the CDC. If there is a resurgence of COVID-19 in the fall, it’s possible this event may be cancelled in the interest of public health.

Brought together by a shared passion for the power of Ethiopian music, this group shines an experimentalism based in the virtuosity of rooted traditions.  With swirling mesekno (one-stringed fiddle), punk krar solors (electric lyre), wah-wah-violing, bass krar boom, and the unstoppable rhythm of heavy kebero (goat-skin drum) beats, powerful traditional lead African diva vocals, Qwanqwa keeps the people wrapped in celebratory attention.  After making a splash at world renowned festivals and with two European tours under their belt, this world traveling ensemble is coming to America!

Oct 9th to Oct 11th from 11:00AM to 6:00PM
