Kurt’s Christmas show makes a third stop in Kayenta!

Kurt Bestor loves playing in intimate settings like Kayenta. “I get to connect with the audience in ways I can’t in larger concert halls and venues”.

Throughout the concert, Kurt weaves in the stories behind each song and why and how he wrote them in his warm, humorous style. “You can’t help but feel his own journey through his music,” says Elise West, a lifelong friend/ fellow musician/ devoted fan, “and it touches everyone in a different way. It’s the reason people go to his concerts. Everyone comes to their own interpretation of what the music means for them personally.” Bestor’s unique style has earned him legions of loyal fans around the world. His sound is powerful and, he hopes, “elevating,” having the capacity to evoke joy, serenity and ecstasy. His composing and performing talents has garnered Emmy awards and Grammy nominations. He’s best known for his Christmas music, but he’s also written over forty film scores for national television and commercials. and he’s played live concerts to more than half a million people in the past 28 years. Bestor was born in Waukesha, Wisconsin, but Utah claims him as their own.

There will be a matinee show on Friday December 4th at 3:00pm, and another show at 7:30pm.

Re-opening guidelines for all performances at the Center for the Arts at Kayenta:

Social distance seating between all ticket groups (SEE SEAT MAP TO LEFT) Please purchase tickets in groups of two or more with family and friends if possible.

Drew & Lacey spent the last ten years immersed in the Nashville music scene. The couple spent time on music row recording, writing and collaborating with top musicians; but Drew & Lacey truly shine when they are on stage. Their stage presence is dynamic and magnetic. It was this magnetism that allowed them to sell out the Rutledge live music venue in downtown Nashville for six years in a row. In a town where live music is notoriously saturated, the buzz created from the duo’s live show was unique. Drew & Lacey have worked with Dillon Hodges (firekid), Mark Evitts, Michael Hinckley, Due West, Peter Breinholt and many more. Since moving to southern Utah, for Drew to be the principal at Tuacahn High School for the Performing Arts, the duo has continued to play music. They were resident musicians at the OC Tanner Amphitheater in Zion, Utah for the summer of 2016, and have opened for Jay Leno and the Steep Canyon Rangers at Tuacahn Amphitheater. Drew & Lacey’s latest album Most Likely, was produced by Scott Wiley at June Audio in Provo and is available on all music platforms.

The Un-Holiday Show with the Stars of Kayenta Live
Saturday December 12, 2020 - 07:30 PM MST

Stone Company is a “Potato Music” trio featuring multi-instrumentalists Jon Stone, Byron Owens and Josh Baird. Stone Company plays an upbeat blend of Euro-American roots music with a groovy twist. Stone Company is headquartered in Southern Utah. Jon Stone: Born in Texas, educated in Kentucky and refined in Louisiana, Jonathan Stone is a multi-instrumentalist musician and vocalist who has played music in almost every state in the US. Read more on their Facebook page!

Lisa MacFarlane found an artistic home in Las Vegas as an adult to perform and connect with blues music lovers, music students, and fellow creatives to craft her first album, Picnic (out everywhere). Picnic tells the story of leaving an abusive relationship and learning to love in a healthy and respectful way in the aftermath. The follow up–a brand new single–Caught Up, is available everywhere.

Rebecca Gent is a young singer/songwriter but her music speaks words beyond her age. She works with specific and simple aspects of emotion and relates it to many moments in time. In the past 4 years, with the influence of many other artists, she has realized that she finds joy in writing and sharing music that is both vulnerable to herself and her listeners. She has had the opportunity to work with many professional producers and professional artists, and she has released two original songs, Lonely and Brushed by Familiar , which can be found on all music platforms.

Water|Ways is a Smithsonian Institution Museum on Main Street exhibition toured by Utah Humanities to four communities around Utah from in 2020-2021.

Water is life. It forms our world and our lives. It allows us to travel; it blocks our paths. It is crucial in determining where we live and work and what we eat and drink. It is an essential natural resource that people struggle to access and control. Water shapes human culture – our ways of life. What does water mean to you? Think about your water/ways and come explore our nation's water story.

This event is part of the Water|Ways Museum on Main Street exhibition, a collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution and Utah Humanities, touring in partnership with the Kanab Heritage Museum. All Water|Ways events are part of Think Water Utah, a statewide collaboration and conversation on the critical topic of water presented by Utah Humanities and its partners. For more information, see www.utahhumanities.org

We are excited to welcome you to the Museum! Activities are online and the exhibition set-up will accommodate social distancing and sanitary practices. SHARE YOUR KANAB WATER STORY TO INCLUDE IN EXHIBIT: Click Here

"Water Right" is a new exhibition at the recently renovated Kanab Heritage Museum. It explores the idea that while water is widely considered a community resource, the cultural values of different societies in the Kanab region over time have caused water resources to be allocated in decidedly different ways.

This exhibition accompanies the Smithsonian Water|Ways exhibition, stopping in Kanab from October 17 to December 13, 2020 at the Kanab Heritage Museum.

Helped by her eager new assistant Annelle (who isn’t sure whether or not she’s still married), the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town’s rich curmudgeon, Ouiser (“I’m not crazy, I’ve just been in a bad mood for 40 years”); an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee, who has a raging sweet tooth; and the local social leader, M’Lynn, whose daughter Shelby (the prettiest girl in town) is about to marry a “good ol’ boy.” Every endearing character makes “Steel Magnolias” a hilarious, heartwarming audience favorite. The underlying strength and love give the play its enduring appeal. Don’t miss the all-star cast and crew including Jan Broberg, Barb Christensen, Chrystine P. Hyatt, Angie Naylor,  Anne Schwab, and Jane Williams; Directed by Desiree Whitehead.

This event is part of the Water|Ways Museum on Main Street exhibition, a collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution and Utah Humanities, touring in partnership with the Kanab Heritage Museum. Robert Harling’s “Steel Magnolias” is back by popular demand! This December, come warm your bones in the Lorraine Boccardo Theater and enter Truvy’s beauty salon, where all the ladies who are anybody in Chinquapin, Louisiana come to have their hair done and swap gossip.
