Tony Butala, Donovan Tea, and Bobby Poynton are The Lettermen. Their signature letter sweaters may only make a brief appearance at each Lettermen performance, but the undeniable Lettermen harmony is non-stop. From their first hit in 1961, “The Way You Look Tonight”, through current hits of today, the sound is patently Lettermen. The Lettermen have 18 Gold Albums worldwide and over $25 million in record sales. All of that in addition to five Grammy nominations, an Andy Award, and a Cleo Award attest to a popularity that has endured through several generations.

Medicine in Old Silver Reef-A Tale of Four Cultures

The many ethnic backgrounds and belief systems of the residents of Old Silver Reef resulted in a range of medical practices. The goal was the same, healing the sick and injured, but the ways of achieving this differed for the Southern Paiutes, Mormon pioneers, Euro-American miners/merchants, and Chinese. Join Dr. Judy Henck in an exploration of these different medical cultures, including stories of the medical methods and beliefs, the healers, and the diseases, accidents, and sometimes mayhem that befell the residents of this cosmopolitan, yet Wild West town.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER:

Dr. Judy Henck, a resident of New Silver Reef for the last 4 years, is a toxicologist by profession, as well as a
gardener and incurable history buff.
She holds a PhD in Pharmacology from Michigan State University and has spent her career in the safety evaluation of pharmaceuticals and other chemicals.
Dr. Henck served as an adjunct faculty member at the
University of Michigan and the Marian University School of Osteopathic Medicine, and has published and lectured widely in the fields of toxicology and safety assessment. As a Master Gardener in the Midwest, she was an invited lecturer on medicinal and poisonous plants.

Hans Christian Andersen's classic tale of a misfit duckling, with a creative twist. In this version, the little hatchling is very strange indeed - green and scaly, with a long pointy tail. All the forest animals make fun of him. Then, the dragon king comes to look for his lost egg...

The puppets are larger-than-life; the show is staged for assembly-sized audiences. The puppets are manipulated bunraku style, where the puppeteers dress in black and move the characters around in full view of the audience - a powerful and imaginative theater experience for all viewers. This show is LOTS of fun, with a great message of acceptance for those who may be a little different.

Ending the Thanksgiving weekend we have the Christmas Light Parade and Festival. This is the best kickoff to the holiday season you will find anywhere in Southern Utah! Starting at 7pm in Kanab join us on Center Street where we will shut down the highway and begin our unique Christmas Light Parade. This year’s theme will be the “I’ll be Home for Christmas”. Bring the whole family as you watch the beautifully crafted parade entries float down Center Street, then turn around, just to be seen a second time.

After the parade, join us on Main Street for hot chocolate and donuts provided by the Volunteer Center and Kanab Chamber of Commerce, and lastly a magical paper lantern wishing launch. Purchase your wishing lanterns ahead of time, or at the event; write messages or wishes on your paper lanters and send them to the sky. Watch your lanterns float to the heavens with a message to a loved one, or to the cosmos with your wishes attached.

All paper lanterns are 100% biodegradable and there is a local bounty on all lanterns found throughout town and the surrounding area to encourage a quick clean up. If you find lanterns and wish to turn them in for a $1 bounty, you can take them to the Events and Volunteer Center (at the Courthouse). These lantern sales are a fundraiser for our local Sub 4 Santa program to help families in need at Christmas time to ensure their children have gifts under the tree. Most gifts are items children are in need of, if you wish to donate to Sub 4 Santa you can contact the Volunteer Center at 435-644-3696.
