Arts to Zion TOUR Artist

Pamala Bird, a native of Utah residing in St. George, is a sculptor and print maker. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Utah State University and has exhibited widely and received awards and recognition for her artwork. Pamala became fascinated at an early age by art and mythology. She was especially drawn to the images of women and goddesses in ancient art that personified feminine attributes such as nurturing, compassion and wisdom. She is currently creating an art series about “Feminine Archetypes Around the World and Through the Ages” in the unusual medium of Hand Cast Paper Bas (low) Relief Sculpture. A great deal of time is invested in researching and sculpting each piece, after which a mold is made and the final artwork is cast with handmade paper pulp made from cotton linters in her kitchen blender. Some are “patinated” with acrylics and oils, and some are left the natural white of the handmade paper. Her art celebrates the importance and contributions of women and mothers to life and society. Creating these images has been personally empowering for her. It has helped her value her own femininity, and find the strength in it. There is more information about her art and processes on her website at www.PamBirdArt.com
