I started drawing when I was seven years old. We had a sitter who was a budding artist and would draw pictures of us while he cared for us. I’m sure it was partially to keep me quiet, as I would sit on the arm of the chair and watch him for hours. He taught me how to draw trees and clouds and I’ve been doing some form of art ever since. In high school I fell in love with ceramics and became enamored with the potter’s wheel. I received an Associate’s Degree in Arts and Crafts with an emphasis on ceramics and painting. The work of the Japanese potters, Sumi painters and impressionists particularly influenced me. Ford Motor Company was my first job out of high school and I spent thirty-four years working with them. My last twenty-five years was spent on the design staff as a clay modeler. I worked in a unique environment with 2-D artists, sculptors, woodworkers, metal workers, plastic and fiber glass crafters, engineers and painters as we designed cars and trucks for future production. All of these people were incredibly talented, working together to produce models that looked even better than the finished production vehicle. For years I was able to satisfy my creative sensibilities at Fords, so now that I am retired I’ve focused mostly on painting with the occasional bunkbed-build for the grandkids thrown in for good measure. In 2018 we sold our house and most everything we owned and traveled through the British Isles, India, Israel, Egypt, Europe and painted along the way. We were forced back to the United States in February of 2020, because of Covid-19, leaving Italy just in time. We are settling in St. George, Utah and I plan to continue painting everything that brings me joy and light so that I can share that joy and light with all of you.
