In Leviathan: Elegy for Ice, artist Pete Froslie continues to transform the museum’s newest exhibit space into an experimental extension of his studio. Previously, visitors encountered Froslie’s computer-generated seascape in real time, which was accompanied by hydrophone recordings of glacial ice. As he expands his Leviathan series, Froslie returns to using chemical processes to extract rare earth metals from electronic waste as he continues to answer the question: “How best can we see capital?” Past visitors of the exhibition should return to the museum to experience Froslie’s second iteration that further examines themes of climate change, moral and political philosophy, philosophical aesthetics, and demonology.

Within this program, the "Our National Parks" section uses photography and other subjects to explore the natural world. The Cedar Hills Family Festival is going to look very different this year. While we sincerely hoped things would be better, thanks to COVID-19, most public gatherings are still going to be extremely limited come the first week of June.
That being said, and with input from city government, we have concluded that the only guaranteed event that we will be able to provide this year is the fireworks show that will take place the same date and time as previously scheduled, Saturday, June 6th at 10:00 p.m.
We hope you'll join us as we celebrate our amazing hometown from our homes this year! But plan on joining us next year is we plan to come back bigger and better than ever!

*****

MAY 12: The Cedar City PRCA Rodeo Committee announced today it will cancel the 2020 Rodeo (scheduled to be held on Friday, June 5 and Saturday, June 6, 2020) due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The obstacles to hold the event were just too steep to overcome.

The safety of our patrons, the contestants, the contract personnel and our volunteers remain our top priority. We hope you will keep the western spirit alive until June, 2021 when the Cedar City PRCA Rodeo will return with all able to attend and enjoy!

Performances will be on Friday, June 5th at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, June 6th at 7:00 p.m. at the Cedar City Rodeo Arena, 11 North Cross Hollows Drive, Cedar City, Utah.

To celebrate and share the beauty of our night skies, Cedar Breaks holds a series of astronomy programs (also known as "star parties") throughout the summer season.

Park rangers and volunteer astronomers host each star party at Point Supreme Overlook. The program begins just before sunset with a ranger-led presentation on astronomy & the dark skies of Cedar Breaks. As the Sun sets and daylight fades, you'll get to view a variety of celestial wonders through several large telescopes. Depending on the night, you might see craters & mountain ranges on the Moon, the rings of Saturn, Jupiter's Galilean moons, star clusters, galaxies, nebulae, and more! Once the skies are completely dark, rangers lead laser-powered constellation tours and discuss the mythology of the heavens.

Star parties are free of charge and generally last 2-3 hours. Reservations are not needed, just show up. Feel free to drop in for a half hour or stay the entire time. Cedar Breaks is home to the highest regularly scheduled astronomy program (10,350 feet) in the entire National Park system. Please dress warmly for the cool night air at this high elevation! You may also wish to bring a lawn or camp chair as seating at Point Supreme is limited.

Southern Utah University's Jumpstart program allows incoming freshmen to complete their general education credits in one year through highly integrated curriculum. Within this program, the "Our National Parks" section uses photography and other subjects to explore the natural world. Through inspiration from a collection of photographs by Brett Weston, a recent gift to SUMA's permanent collection, these students crafted their own photography project reflecting on National Parks in the area. The students' photographs will be on display along with the Weston photos that inspired their project.

*****

The Cedar Hills Family Festival is a special time for the community to come together for summer fun!

***

Few young people have the opportunity to grow up on a ranch or farm in today’s society. Accordingly, Cedar City pays tribute to the rich ranching and farming heritage of its ancestors through the Cedar City PRCA Championship Rodeo. Performances will be on Friday, June 5th at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, June 6th at 7:00 p.m. at the Cedar City Rodeo Arena, 11 North Cross Hollows Drive, Cedar City, Utah.

A full contingent of Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association events will include Bareback, Steer Wrestling, Tie Down Roping, Saddlebronc, Team Roping, Barrel Racing and Bull Riding each performance. World Class cowboys and livestock will provide amazing rides and unexpected wrecks that will keep the spectators on the edge of their seats.
